Joy Muhia
Joy is a Medical psychologist and Global Mental health graduate from KCL & LSHTM. She is the Mental Health Innovation Network coordinator. MHIN (https://www.mhinnovation.net/) is a global community of mental health innovators sharing innovative resources and ideas to promote mental health and improve the lives of people with mental, neurological and substance use disorders. Prior to joining LSHTM, Joy worked with QualityRights Kenya at the Division of Mental Health Ministry of Health, Kenya where she coordinated & provided technical support to the implementation of the initiative. This involved capacity building on the QualityRights face to face and e-training, legal reforms aligned to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), service transformation, championing lived experience voice and public awareness & advocacy. She was also a support secretariat to the presidential mental health taskforce During the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked with the mental health and psychosocial support subcommittee in Kenya to develop the national Mental health response plan to the COVID-19 Joy’s research interests lie in strengthening mental health systems and policy ensuring equitable and quality access.
