Professor Tolib Mirzoev

I am a health policy and systems researcher and Professor of Global Health Policy in the Department of Global Health and Development. Prior to joining the LSHTM in April 2021, I was Professor of International Health Policy and Systems and Head of Nuffield Centre for International Health and Development at the University of Leeds. My expertise lies in three inter-connected areas: health policies, health systems and capacity strengthening. My research is mainly in South Asia (e.g. Bangladesh, India, Vietnam) and sub-Saharan Africa (e.g. Nigeria, Ghana, Tanzania). Most of my research in the past has been applying systems and policy lenses to maternal health, but I’m increasingly interested, and involved in, research focusing on mental health.

• ADOWA – Adolescent mental, sexual and reproductive health and wellbeing policy, program and primary care implementation priorities in West Africa (Apr 2021 – Mar 2024, MRC, £874k), Co-investigator. 
• SAMA – Safeguarding adolescent mental health in India: a co-designed feasibility study of a systems intervention targeting youth anxiety and depression (Jan 2021 – Dec 2023, MRC, £914k), Co-investigator. 
• RESPONSE – Improving health systems responsiveness to neglected health needs of vulnerable groups in Ghana and Vietnam (Apr 2020 – Sept 2023, MRC / DFID / Wellcome / ESRC; £809k), Principal Investigator.
