CGMH Seminar: Implementation process and outcomes of a mental health programme delivered in primary care clinics in rural Mexico
Centre for Global Mental Health Seminar Series
Implementation process and outcomes of a mental health programme delivered in primary care clinics in rural Mexico: a mixed-methods study
Policies and programmes in Mexico promote the integration of mental health services into primary health care (PHC), however, these services remain largely unavailable. In the state of Chiapas, a non-governmental organisation has been delivering a mental health programme at PHC clinics since 2011, in partnership with the local Ministry of Health. The aim of this study is to examine the implementation process and outcomes of this mental health programme to identify strengths and remaining challenges, and to draw lessons to support the integration of mental health services in other PHC settings.
Georgina is a PhD Candidate in her last year at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Her research interests focus on the evaluation of both the implementation and outcomes of services for mental health in low-and-middle income settings. Georgina has worked on the evaluation of development projects in an NGO in Mexico. She has also worked as a research assistant at the Mexican Institute of Psychiatry in a project looking at the impact of the deportation of parents on the mental health of their children. Whilst studying for her PhD, Georgina has collaborated on a multi-programme evaluation project for the Mental Health Innovation Network.
