Patient and Public Involvement in Research: Lessons from Mental Health
Patient and Public Involvement in Research: Lessons from Mental Health
Patient and Public Involvement, or "PPI", is increasingly being recognized as an important element of research best practice in the UK and globally. Funders ask for PPI plans in grant applications, editors ask for PPI statements on manuscripts, and yet many researchers don’t really know what PPI is, why it’s important, or how to do it.
In this workshop, experts in peer research from the McPin Foundation will facilitate a participatory “taster” training on PPI, drawing parallels between mental health and other areas of research. Staff from the Centre for Global Mental Health at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine will also share their experiences of PPI in diverse settings.
This workshop will be of particular relevance to students and academics involved in public health research with a focus on people in vulnerable situations.
